RWANDA
The gorilla trek involves dozens of decisions that most people never consider, which gorilla family you are assigned to see, how the groups are organized, how long you should realistically expect to trek, and how to physically prepare for an experience that can range from a gentle walk to a demanding climb. How you feel before the trek and after it matters. What you eat that morning matters.
Most people booking this on their own do not know what they do not know. They find out on the mountain, when it is too late to change anything.
And here is something most advisors will not tell you: if you want a traditional safari, Rwanda is not the place for it. There are better destinations for that, and I will tell you which ones. Rwanda is for the gorillas, for Kigali, and for the Genocide Memorial, which is non-negotiable, and I will explain why when we talk.
I have done it. I stayed at Singita Kwitonda Lodge, one of the finest properties in Africa, and it set the standard for everything I recommend in East Africa.
Rwanda is extraordinary for two things: the gorilla trek, and the city of Kigali. I will be honest with you about what it is not, too.
And if you have the time, Rwanda offers more than most travelers realize, the lakes and waterways reward those who slow down and stay longer, well beyond Kigali and the volcanoes.
I have been on the ground in Rwanda. I know which lodge delivers the best overall experience for your specific trip. I know exactly what the trek requires, how it is structured, and how to prepare you so that you arrive ready for one of the great experiences of your life rather than blindsided by its demands.
I will also tell you the truth about how to structure your time, how much belongs in Kigali, what you cannot miss, and when another country would serve your safari dreams better than Rwanda would. That honesty is the whole point of working with me.
And most people treat Rwanda as a quick in-and-out for the trek. If you have the time, I can show you the Rwanda beyond the gorilla trek, the lakes and the slower, quieter side of the country that rewards a longer stay.

"The industry is inundated with many who call themselves travel planners. However, few are truly called to do this work and do so with excellence. BonVoyage Christine is one of the few. No longer will I spend hours planning my own vacations."
