ABOUT

Ask me about the best camp in Wadi Rum at sunrise.

Ask me which Singita lodge in Rwanda delivers the most intimate gorilla trekking experience, or why Johannesburg deserves three full days before you see anything else in South Africa.

Ask me why the Hiram Bingham train to Machu Picchu is non-negotiable, what it feels like to stand at the edge of the Cappadocia valley as the hot air balloons rise at first light, or how to prepare your body for the altitude in Tibet, because the Potala Palace at the top of the world is worth every careful step of the ascent.

I will not stop talking.

That passion is not incidental to what I do. It is the entire foundation of it.

I'm Christine Phillips, Founder of BonVoyage Christine

Washington DC's Luxury Travel Advisor

BonVoyage Christine was built on one conviction:

The difference between a good trip and a life-changing one is the person who plans it.

A Traveler First.

A Travel Advisor Second.

I am Christine Phillips, and BonVoyage Christine is me. Washington DC-based Virtuoso-affiliated, ASTA-verified, IATA-accredited luxury travel advisor who serves as Secretary of ASTA's Central Atlantic Chapter. I have personally explored 40+ countries across six continents, not on industry press trips, but on my own time and my own investment, driven entirely by a need to know.

Every destination I recommend, every lodge I book, every routing decision I make is informed by firsthand experience. I have tracked gorillas in Rwanda and stayed at Singita Kwitonda Lodge, one of the finest properties on the continent. I have ridden the Hiram Bingham train through Peru's Sacred Valley, spent 20 days driving through Morocco, stood at the edge of the Dead Sea in Jordan, watched sunrise at Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and eaten dinner in a Bedouin cave in Wadi Rum. I have done this not because my work required it, but because I could not imagine building a business on anything less than firsthand knowledge.

I left a successful career in public administration to do this full time. That tells you everything about the depth of my commitment.

The Trip That Started Everything

I was born in Liberia. Which means Africa has never been just a destination for me, it is where my relationship with the world began. That rootedness is part of everything I plan, and it is why the continent holds a particular place in every itinerary I build that touches it.

In 2009, I planned my honeymoon to Thailand. Every detail, the hotels, the transfers, the routing, the restaurants. It was ready. Then civil unrest made travel there impossible, and I had days to rebuild the entire trip from scratch.

We went to Paris and Florence instead.

What I discovered in that pivot was something I did not expect: I was good at this. Not just organized, genuinely good at reading a destination, understanding what makes a trip work, and building something that felt intentional even when it was not the original plan. My husband, who had never left the United States before that trip, arrived in Paris and understood immediately why people spend their lives traveling. He has not stopped since.

He is now, by my own admission, a more demanding traveler than I am.

That trip, and that pivot, became the blueprint for everything BonVoyage Christine does.

Because the ability to adapt, rebuild, and still deliver something extraordinary is not a backup skill.

It is the whole job.

A 30-day European sabbatical through Rome, Venice, Florence, Paris, and Belgium. A group journey through Turkey, born from my own 10th anniversary trip in 2020, 15 days across a country I fell in love with and have returned to five times since. Safaris in Tanzania and Rwanda. Luxury escapes across the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and the Middle East.

Every single one planned with the same obsessive attention to detail I gave that first honeymoon, the one that almost went somewhere else entirely.

My two daughters, now 12 and 14, have been part of this journey in ways I never anticipated. They have strong opinions about airport lounges, know the difference between a good hotel and a great one, and have traveled enough to have genuine taste. My 14-year-old has, on more than one occasion, been the deciding vote when I am torn between two properties. She has an impeccable eye. That perspective shapes how I plan family travel, and why I take it as seriously as any other category.

Since then, I have planned trips across six continents for clients ranging from solo adventurers and first-time honeymooners to multi-generational families and groups of 20.

Who want a trip built precisely around them, not assembled from a template. Who want the joy of arriving somewhere extraordinary and knowing every detail has already been taken care of.

They have the budget to travel exceptionally. What they do not have is the time, the access, or the inside knowledge to execute it at this level. That is where I come in.

This work is not about booking trips. It is about crafting experiences: arriving somewhere extraordinary, every detail handled, with nothing left for you to do but be there. I will share my expert perspective. I will offer my honest opinion when something will serve your vision better than the option in front of you. And I will build something rooted in knowledge that only comes from going there myself, on my own time, again and again.

This is for the traveler who has decided the trip should finally match the life they've built. If this sounds like the way you want to travel, the first step is simple. Book a discovery call. I will handle everything from there.

My ideal clients are people who want their travel to mean something.

Who I Work With

A Note on Luxury Train Travel

There is a category of travel experience that most people do not think to ask about, and that I believe is among the most extraordinary ways to move through the world. Luxury train travel.

The Hiram Bingham by Belmond through Peru's Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu. The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express through the heart of Europe. The Belmond Royal Scotsman through the Scottish Highlands. The Rovos Rail across Southern Africa. These are not simply ways to get from one place to another. They are destinations in themselves, and they belong in a category of experience that most travelers never think to request.

I have personal experience with several of these journeys and the planning knowledge that makes the difference between a good booking and a genuinely extraordinary one. If luxury train travel is something you have always wanted to experience, or something you have never considered but should, it is one of my favorite conversations to have.

01.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

Tanzania

The Serengeti is everything it promises, but only if you know where to be and when. I have slept in the wilderness with nothing between me and the sounds of the bush, and I know which camps earn their price and which ones do not.

02.

Rwanda

The gorilla trek at dawn is one of the most profound experiences I have had as a traveler. I stayed at Singita Kwitonda Lodge, one of the finest properties in Africa, and it set the standard for everything I recommend in East Africa. I know what to expect, how to prepare, and what makes the difference between an overwhelming morning and a transcendent one.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

03.

South Africa

Do not skip Johannesburg. Gandhi's farmhouse. Constitution Hill. Mandela's sanctuary. You cannot understand South Africa without starting there. I will make sure you do not miss it.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

04.

Morocco

Twenty days driving through Morocco taught me that this country rewards the traveler who goes deeper. Marrakech is the beginning. Tangier, criminally slept on, is where I would send anyone who wants to see this country as it truly is.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

05.

Jordan

Petra takes your breath away. Wadi Rum takes the rest of it. Add the Dead Sea and Amman and you have one of the most underrated itineraries in the world. I have done all of it. I know exactly where to stay in Wadi Rum to watch the sun set over the desert from a Bedouin camp.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

06.

Turkey

My favorite country to plan, and the one I know most deeply. I first traveled through Turkey in 2020 for my 10th wedding anniversary, 15 days from one end to the other. That trip became the foundation of my signature group itinerary, and I have been back five times since. I know the cave hotel with the best views of the Cappadocia valley at sunrise and sunset. I know when to book the hot air balloon, which operator to trust, and how to pace the Turkish Riviera in Bodrum so it feels like a reward, not just a stop. Turkey rewards depth. I bring it.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

07.

Peru

Machu Picchu is not the whole story, not even close. Peru has one of the great food cultures on earth, and I have never eaten so much or so well on a single trip. Lima alone is worth the flight. The Hiram Bingham train by Belmond through the Sacred Valley is the experience, not just the destination. The altitude requires preparation. The logistics require care. Done properly, Peru is extraordinary. Done without guidance, it is a series of missed opportunities.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

08.

Tibet

The Potala Palace at the top of the world is one of the most visually arresting places on earth, but Tibet requires preparation that most travelers underestimate. The altitude is real. The permits are specific. The timing matters. I know how to prepare you physically and logistically so that you arrive ready to receive what Tibet offers, not recovering from what it demands.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

09.

Italy

Florence is where my heart lives. But the Italy most people miss is what keeps me coming back. Matera, a city carved entirely from rock, extraordinary at Christmas with its candlelit markets and ancient streets, is one of the most beautiful places I have ever stood. Note: Matera involves significant walking on uneven terrain and is not ideal for travelers with limited mobility. I know where the crowds are in every Italian city and exactly how to avoid them.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

10.

Greece

Most people fly straight to Santorini and miss the best part of Greece entirely. I spent a week driving the full length of Crete, my favorite place in the country, before continuing to Athens. Crete is where Greece reveals itself slowly, over winding coastal roads and meals that last three hours. Santorini gets the photographs. Crete and Athens give you everything else. You need all three.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

11.

Egypt

The pyramids, yes. But Egypt is a destination most travelers underplan. A luxury property on the Nile in Luxor transforms the entire experience. I will make sure you do not miss what most people do.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

12.

Caribbean

St. Barths for pure luxury and effortless elegance. Anguilla and St. Lucia for natural beauty and calm. Belize for the traveler who wants something wilder. I have planned escapes across the islands and know exactly which properties deliver on their promise.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

13.

Qatar

One of the most overlooked destinations in the world, and one of my favorites to recommend for couples, solo travelers, and families alike. The architecture, the culture, the hospitality. Qatar surprised me completely and continues to surprise every client I send there.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.

14.

Cambodia

Sunrise at Angkor Wat is one of those experiences that stays with you permanently. I have been there. I know the timing, the positioning, and how to build a Southeast Asia itinerary where the temples are the centerpiece, not an afterthought.

40+ Countries. Six Continents. All Firsthand.
